1968 Yamaha SA-70 Hollow Bass MIJ w/ Original Hardshell Case

$2,000.00

A rare and super vibey piece from Yamaha’s golden age of MIJ craftsmanship, this 1968 SA-70 is a fully hollow short-scale bass with a tone that sits somewhere between a Hofner and an ES-335. Loaded with a pair of punchy single coil pickups and full hollow construction, it delivers deep, woody thump with a surprising amount of clarity and definition. The maple body is featherlight and beautifully finished in a deep burst, with original hardware and electronics all intact—including those great roller bridge saddles and oversized volume/tone knobs. The slim neck profile and 30.5" scale make it an effortless player for fingerstyle or pick work alike.

It’s a beautiful survivor with all the right patina—some light finish checking and a bit of honest wear, but no breaks or repairs. These early Yamaha hollowbody basses are tough to come by, especially in complete condition with the original hardshell case, making this a killer vintage alternative to the usual suspects.

This guitar is a great addition in anyone’s collection and with a fresh set up it is ready to go!
